About the Awards
Today, the awards encapsulate three unique achievements - with each accolade representing an integral part of today's dynamic wine industry.
-
The Wine Society Young Winemaker of the Year
The Winemaker who is deemed to have produced and made the most outstanding wines of all nominees in question is awarded the title of The Wine Society Young Winemaker of the Year. Judging is executed by four of Australia's and New Zealand's most respected wine show judges. The winner takes out the Event's flagship award, exposing the Winemaker and their brand to a world of advertising and industry opportunities.
The title is currently held by Ryan Aggiss of Flying Fish Cove, WA.
-
The Wine Society Members Choice Award
Now in its 6th year, the Members' Choice Award has become one of the most prestigious achievements for a Winemaker to receive in their career. The accolade is decided every October, through a series of “blind” wine tastings around Australia - showcasing the 2 best wines from each of the 10 finalist Winemakers. Over 500 Wine Society Members decide which wine reigns supreme from the 20 eligible wines in competition.
The title is currently held by Peter Kelly of Thorn-Clarke, SA.
-
The Wine Society Sommeliers Choice Award
An initiative of the 2007 Awards, the Sommeliers Choice Award is decided by Sommeliers from a handful of Australia's iconic fine-dining restaurants. The nominees receive welcomed exposure within the hospitality industry while the winner gains access to endless promotional and distribution opportunities.
The title is currently held by Jen Pfeiffer of Pfeiffer Wines, VIC.
