Luc Cowley was born in Wellington, New Zealand the youngest of three children in the Cowley clan. When Luc’s family bought land in Marlborough to plant a vineyard, his interest was piqued. It was enough of an interest that upon leaving home, he decided to pursue a degree in Viticulture and Oenology at Lincoln University. After university, he worked several vintages in Oregon and California in the United States and on Waiheke Island before settling in Marlborough, New Zealand in 2005. Returning to the place of his family’s vineyard has also allowed Luc to become part of a dynamic duo, becoming the winemaker for Auntsfield in 2007 while his brother, Ben, takes care of the viticulture side of the business. During this time, Luc was also working at the contract winery Indevin, focusing mainly on Pinot Noir. Luc became the Red Winemaker in 2008, before resigning in 2010 to focus solely on Auntsfield Estate.
